Cape Town isn't the only South African city facing water challenges. In Johannesburg, water's becoming more scarce. Experts say while it may not be as bad as Cape Town, residents need to focus on saving water now -- before it's too late. Water shortages are becoming real for residents and actually drying out the taps. Over the weekend parts of Joburg and Tshwane were without water - reportedly as a result of restrictions from Rand Water. Midrand, Diepkloof and parts of Soweto were in danger of running dry today. Municipal authorities have pleaded with City of Joburg residents to reduce their water usage to avoid restrictions being increased to Level 3. To discuss we're joined by Hilgard Matthews from Joburg Water. For more news, visit: http://www.sabc.co.za/news
The embattled South African President Jacob Zuma could be out of power within days, but residents in Cape Town are facing uncertainty of another kind: their water supply is fast running out. After three years of relentless drought, a rapidly expanding population and accusations of poor planning by authorities, day zero, when the taps are simply turned off, could be as soon as May. Our International Editor Lindsey Hilsum reports.

Wednesday morning several areas in North Riding, Randburg, were warned by authorities not to drink their household water. This was because Johannesburg Water said there may be contamination from a sewage line that was damaged while they were trying to fix a water line. Food vs Water Source: http://www.imeche.org/docs/default-source/reports/Global_Food_Report.pdf Cape Town is hurtling towards “Day Zero”: the day taps run dry. This is expected in mid-May, just weeks after the city’s new water supplies are due. Cape Town is quite used to surviving dry years. Water restrictions get it through and then dams refill, thanks to the wet years that usually follow. But this time it’s different. Never in recorded history has Cape Town encountered a drought of such severity for three consecutive years. One ...
After three years of unprecedented drought, the South African city of Cape Town has less than 90 days worth of water in its reservoirs, putting it on track to be the first major city in the world to run out of water. Unless residents drastically cut down on daily use, warns Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille, taps in the seaside metropolis of four million will soon run dry. On April 22, to be exact. Johannesburg residents should brace themselves for more water shortages this week. That's the warning from the municipalities affected by water shortages. Several areas in and around the city have been without water supply for close to a week due to depleted water supply in four reservoirs. Water supplier- Rand Water has blamed this on a series of power cuts.

About 100 suburbs in the Johannebsurg Metro will have reduced access to water for about 25 hours this weekend. Rand Water says water supply in suburbs across Johannesburg, Randburg, Roodepoort and Soweto will be affected. The cut takes place from early Saturday afternoon up to Sunday afternoon due to maintenance at the Eikenhof pump station. Rand Water will continue to supply water into the system at a reduced capacity, but there might be poor pressure and no water supply experienced in the affected areas.
